How long does a windshield replacement take?
A windshield replacement typically takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours. The exact time frame depends on the year, make, and model of your vehicle, as well as the features and technology it has. Some vehicles are equipped with sensors, cameras, rain sensors, heads-up displays, and other electronics that must be carefully removed, reinstalled, and recalibrated during the replacement. Is it possible to repair a small windshield chip or crack instead of replacing it?
Yes! If the chip or crack is smaller than a quarter, a chip repair can be performed to prevent the damage from spreading and ruining the entire windshield. Acting quickly is important — even a small chip can spread into a large crack from temperature changes, road vibration, or pressure, which would then require a full replacement. Depending on the type and location of the damage, the chip or crack may or may not still be slightly visible after a repair, but the repair restores the structural integrity of the glass.
Can I drive my vehicle immediately after a windshield replacement?
Yes, you can drive immediately after a windshield replacement without any worries. However, we strongly recommend avoiding car washes for at least 72 hours after the replacement so the adhesive has enough time to fully cure and create a complete, watertight seal that protects the interior of your car. We also recommend leaving a window slightly cracked for the first day to avoid pressure buildup, and avoiding slamming your doors during that initial curing period.
Will the new glass be a different quality than my original windshield?
Unless you specifically request otherwise, AFG Auto Glass always uses OEM glass for windshield replacements. This means the appearance, quality, features, and safety of the glass will be identical to your original windshield — the only difference is the logo or branding of the manufacturer. We also offer two other options: Original/Dealership glass, which is available by ordering directly from the dealer and is much more expensive, or aftermarket glass, which can be slightly cheaper than OEM but may be lower in quality. We give you the freedom to choose based on your budget, and every option we offer meets the highest safety standards.
