1) Front Windshield Services:

Windshield Replacement

Prices starting at $199
Windshields available for all cars, electric vehicles and commercial vehicles; of any make, model, or year. If your windshield is severely damaged/cracked, then a full replacement must be done in order to make sure you avoid tickets, failing inspection, or worse, being injured in an accident. Your windshield is one of the most important pieces of protective equipment on your car, and it is also home to many sensors and technological features. Please refer to the section to the right of this paragraph if you need help figuring out what features are present in your car or windshield, or give us a call by clicking the button to the right. AFG Auto Glass only sources the highest quality materials and tools (obtained locally) because the safety of you and your vehicle is our first priority. We offer free mobile service to all of Northern VA and Washington DC.

Windshield Repair: Water Leak or Wind Noise

Prices starting at $149
If you are experiencing a water leakage or wind noise coming in from your front windshield, it could mean the molding or seal around the auto glass has eroded or been damaged. If this is the case, it is important to act quick and get the leak repaired before your car's expensive electronics or interior are permanently damaged. If this happens, it will be much more costly to repair. It can also lead to your vehicle's AC or heater unit overworking, especially with the extreme weather conditions we sometimes experience here in the Northern Virginia and Washington DC metropolitan area. Our certified auto glass technicians are experienced with all car makes and models, and can have the leak repaired on the same day!

Windshield Repair: Chip or Crack Repair

Prices starting at $89!
Windshield repairs available for any vehicle front glass/windshield, although not all chips and cracks can be repaired! If the chip or crack on your windshield is smaller than the diameter of a Quarter (coin), then it is possible to get a windshield repair done to prevent your windshield from cracking any further (note: it will not go away visually, but it will protect your windshield from cracking further). This service will be much cheaper than a full replacement, but you must act quick before it spreads and damages the windshield beyond repair. If this happens, you can also fail inspection or receive a ticket from law enforcement, depending on your respective local laws. A chip or crack in the driver's field of vision is something that many certified inspection stations in Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia will not pass. If this is the case, you will need a complete windshield replacement for your vehicle.

Windshield Repair: Molding or Sealant/Adhesive.

Prices starting at $119
Sometimes due to the harsh seasonal weather of the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River area, or years of wear and tear, your auto glass windshield molding/sealant might start to dry up or erode. This can jeopardize the integrity of your entire windshield and lead to very expensive interior cabin damage in your car or irreparable damage to expensive electronics. If this is your case, you will need new molding around your windshield (rubber strip around the windshield). In extreme cases, you may need to replace the glue (urethane for windshields) that keeps your windshield attached. Regardless of what kind of windshield repair you require, we have solutions and are here to help with 24/7 customer service!

2) Car Window Services

Driver side or passenger side, quarter glass, vent glass windows

Auto Glass Replacement: Power Window

Prices starting at just $189!
Available for all domestic or foreign cars, electric and commercial vehicles. Newer/more premium cars will have Laminated glass front windows to provide an extra layer of protection, but most cars have Tempered glass front windows. The difference between them is easy to spot. If your window shattered into small pieces then it is a tempered window, but if the front window has just cracked or chipped but remained together, then it is laminated glass (more expensive and function much like the front windshield). Some rear windows come with a factory tint so it is important to specify this information to your AFG Auto Glass representative when you are calling for a quote. The tinted versions will be a slightly more expensive than the transparent versions. We also offer repairs and replacements for window motors or regulators for when your window gets stuck, off track or stops working.

Auto Glass Replacement: Vent Window

Prices starting at just $189!
The vent glass window is the window that is always right next to a power window and shares the same pillar. These windows are always the smallest on the vehicle and are either rectangular or triangular. Available for all domestic or foreign cars, electric and commercial vehicles. Some rear vent windows come with a factory tint so it is important to specify this information to your AFG Auto Glass representative when getting a quote. The tinted versions will be a slightly more expensive than the transparent versions. Older car vent windows are no longer manufactured and if that is the case, you can call us and we will assist you in finding the part from a matching vehicle OR we can contact the dealership to request the part (will be more expensive if they have it). When requesting a part from a dealership you may either call them yourself and provide the VIN number, or you can send all of the information here and an AFG Auto Glass team member will take care of it all for you!

Auto Glass Replacement: Quarter Window

Prices starting at just $189!
The Quarter glass window is the window that is always the last window (on either side) towards the trunk/corner. These windows come in many shapes and sizes, and some may even open. Some quarter windows come with a factory tint so it is important to specify this information to your AFG Auto Glass representative when getting a quote. The tinted versions will be a slightly more expensive than the transparent versions. Auto Glass Repair: Window Water Leak or Wind Noise

Prices starting at just $119!
If you are experiencing a water leak from your window, or you hear wind noise coming in from your while you drive, it could mean the molding or seal around the auto glass has eroded/been damaged, the window has fallen slightly off track, or the glass has chipped around the edge. In any case, it is important to act quick and get the leak repaired before the car's expensive electronics or interior are permanently damaged (especially the controls for locking/unlocking the door or controlling the power window. This will be very expensive to repair).

Car Window Repair: Motor or Regulator

Prices starting at just $119!
If your car window has stopped rolling up or down or is stuck, it is likely because of a broken window motor or regulator. The window motor is responsible for powering the movement of your car’s window, and you will know this is broken if you press the button to roll up/down and you do not hear any noise coming from inside the door panel. If you do hear any kind of sound (buzzing, crunching, etc) then your motor is most likely functional, but the regulator has broken. The regulator is the part that is attached to and powered by the motor. Call our customer service line and they will gladly help diagnose your exact case and give you a quote! We can order the motor and/or regulator for any make, model or year. For common/popular vehicles, you can find the part at your local auto parts shop & we can schedule a technician to pick it up and install it at your location!

Car Window Repair: Molding, Sealant, Adhesive Repair

Prices starting at just $119!
If you are experiencing a water leak, or you hear wind noise entering your car window, it could mean that the molding or glue around the glass has worn out or been damaged. In any case, it is important to act quick and get the leak repaired before the vehicle's expensive electronics or interior are permanently damaged. The most common reason for molding or glue that is coming off/been damaged is harsh weather or old age. If you live in an area that is constantly experiencing harsh weather events or varies dramatically in temperature ranges throughout the year, the sealant/glue (called urethane) can dry up, and crack, leaving it exposed to leaks or breakage. A similar phenomenon occurs with cars/windows that are very old or have not been replaced or serviced at all.

Rain Sensor – Front Windshield

A rain sensor detects the presence of rain on a vehicle’s windshield. You will know if your car windshield has a rain sensor if your Windshield Wipers turn on automatically when it rains.  Another way to tell is to look at the windshield from the outside (front) of your car. If you see a small shiny film or camera on the back of the rearview mirror, that is the sensor. If you see two sensors, you could also have a light sensor (which means the car has automatic headlights)

humidity sensor - located inside vehicle, on the windshield, behind the rear view mirror

Humidity Sensor – Front Windshield

If your car has a humidity sensor, it is inside the vehicle on the windshield, and is typically right behind, next to, or together the rear view mirror. The humidity sensor is responsible for gathering information about the temperature and humidity inside the cabin of your car. When a certain threshold is reached, the sensor will automatically turn on your A/C or defog feature in order to reduce misting of your windows and improve overall safety and comfort while inside the car.

third visor frit- tiny black dots at the top on windshield or above the rear view mirror

Third Visor Frit - Front Windshield

Ever wonder what those tiny black dots are that exist at the top of so many car windshields? That area is called the third visor frit, and it is placed at the top of your windshield and/or right above the rearview mirror in order to protect the driver from the sunlight. They are designed specifically to absorb and block the intense rays of the sun from distracting the driver, or even worse, but at the same time allow you to see through a little.

Lane departure warning system (LDWS) and Rain sensor for windshield

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) – Front Windshield

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) is an Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) feature that uses cameras/sensors to detect and warn the driver that the vehicle is moving out of the lane or road. This feature will warn the driver with audible, vibrational and/or visual warnings to alert or wake up them up (unless the driver turns on the turn signal in the respective direction).

forward collision alert sensor, located in the front windshield third visor frit, next to LDWS sensor and rain sensor.

Forward Collision Alert (FCA) – Front Windshield

Forward Collision Alert (FCA) is also referred to as Collision Alert System (CAS). It is an Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) that uses radar, lidar and/or cameras in order to monitor the speed of your vehicle, the speed of the vehicle in front, and the space in between. When the sensor reaches a threshold and it detects that you are getting too close or about to crash, it will either notify you (similar to LDWS) or automatically deploy your brakes in order to reduce the severity of the crash or prevent it completely.

Light Sensor – Front Windshield

The light sensor is responsible for telling your car when to turn on/off the headlights. It does so by gathering information about the light available around your car. When the sun sets or you enter a tunnel and a certain darkness is reached, the light sensor will turn on the headlights, without you needing to do anything. You’ll know if your car has a light sensor if there is an “automatic” mode for the headlight controls, or if the lights turn on automatically when dark. Many times, the light and rain sensors are housed together or next to one another, and look very similar in size, shape, form.

Heated Wiper Park Area – Front Windshield

You’ll know if your car has a heated windshield wiper park area if you 1) have a button/switch inside the vehicle to turn on the heater.  2) if you see the wires/bands running across the area were the wipers sit on the front windshield, or 3) if your vehicle is equipped with the cold weather package. The wires/bands conduct heat throughout the area and melt ice and defrost the windshield wipers extremely efficiently- a feature that seems like its built for the harsh winters we experience in the Washington DC and Northern Virginia area.

Heated Back Glass/Rear Window

If you see wires/bands running across the inside of the back glass/rear window, it means it is a heated glass. The metal wires are placed in the interlayer of the window and are activated by a switch or button inside your vehicle cabin to defrost the glass during cold weather, snow or icy conditions. If your vehicle came with a premium cold weather package, it most likely contains this features as well as many others.

City Smart Breaking System

Forward Collision Alert (FCA) is also referred to as Collision Alert System (CAS). It is an Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) that uses radar, lidar and/or cameras in order to monitor the speed of your vehicle, the speed of the vehicle in front, and the space in between. When the sensor reaches a threshold and it detects that you are getting too close or about to crash, it will either notify you (similar to LDWS) or automatically deploy your brakes in order to reduce the severity of the crash or prevent it completely.

Electrochromic Mirror – Front Windshield

Also referred to as an auto-dim mirror. These are mirrors with electronics inside that allow the mirror to automatically dim when there are bright lights reflected (Ex: you are driving home on 495 from Washington DC to Northern Virginia and the car behind you has their high beams on). If f there are buttons on your rearview mirror or there are wires connected to it, it is an electrochromic mirror. It is important to make note of every feature your car has, as this will affect which kind of windshield it requires. Believe it or not, there are all sorts of wires and sensors that connect the windshield to the car and enable various safety features.

Shade Band - Front Windshield

The windshield shade band is a dark-tinted strip located at the top of the windshield, usually between 4–6 inches deep. It serves as a sun visor to reduce glare and improve visibility for the driver. Shade bands are typically made of a darker tinted glass or applied film to the windshield during manufacturing. It helps to block out the direct sunlight that can cause eye strain and discomfort for the driver during the daytime, but does not obstruct the view of the road. Many modern vehicles come equipped with a shade band as a standard feature, but it is also possible to add one to older cars as an aftermarket accessory or windshield replacement.

Solar Glass

Solar glass is a type of glass designed to absorb and control the amount of heat and light that passes through. It is designed to reduce heat transfer and glare from sunlight by reflecting a portion of it back outside while still allowing visible light to pass through. It is commonly used in cars and buildings to improve energy efficiency by reducing the amount of air conditioning needed to keep the interior cool. Passive solar glass can be made with a variety of materials, including low-e coatings, tinted glass, and reflective films.
